Hello! My name is Louella. I began my Kali journey in July 2017 after visiting my friends martial arts store and seeing Filipino weaponry displayed on the walls. I was surprised to know we had a martial art and as my friend spoke to me about FMA I decided to join a few clubs. People were speaking our language and there was a familiar way about how things were taught that reminded me of the Filipino culture. I knew this was something I wanted to explore and was inspired to create pyrography designs for olisi as I wanted more people to know about FMA as well as the culture and history behind it. The olisi collection is a celebration of our culture and the promotion of FMA as part of our heritage. The pyrography designs reimagine traditional symbolism from across the archipelago into contemporary motifs. Each work is individually handcrafted and tells a unique story.

I was born in Quezon City Philippines and raised in Melbourne Australia. I completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in both Art History and Indigenous Cultures. I am an online student of Kapatiran Mandarigma (current), Visualising Flow VTC (current), and Pekiti University (1yr). I was a member of the Monash University Arnis Kalis Ilustrisimo Club (3yrs), and for a very brief time a student of Cacoy Doce Pares Melbourne (3mths), and a student of Philippine Combatives (1yr).

Pick up your olisi and come train with me! Scroll through my videos for some FMA basic drills. It's easy and anyone is welcome to have a go, get fit, and have fun :) If you enjoy it and would like to learn more please contact me and I can help find a suitable teacher near you.
